This chart illustrates the number of casualties the United States experienced during the Vietnam War. This chart puts into perspective the number of names that are on the wall. When you look at the graph it helps you visualize the number of casualties that are on the wall. Although some were satisfied with having only the fallen soldier’s names written on the wall, many were angered that those who fought and survived were excluded.

The chart above illustrates the popularity of the name Maya Lin and Vietnam Veterans Memorial. It shows a gradual increase in interest of the Vietnam Memorial after its opening on November 1982. The controversy surrounding the design also sparks an increase in Maya Lin's name. Although the memorial will forever be synonymous with her name, the Vietnam Memorial hovers slightly over it. The reason behind this spike in interest between 1990 and 2004 could be attributed to the fact that the statue of the Three Servicemen was added in 1984 along with a flag of the United States. Moreover, their was a documentary released in 1994  that won an Academy Award the following year and in 2000 she released a book based on her experience designing the memorial
